Holy smokes- it’s been forty Font Fridays! We’re loving our fortieth find:

Typefaces that are available in several weights are fantastic additions to your collection- you never have to worry about the fonts matching (they’re the same- so they always do!) and using the different weights can add dimension and emphasis. Reverie has a playful, airy feel- we think it’d be perfect paired with a whimsical script for a fun wedding set.

Time has been flying by and it seems like only yesterday (it was August) that we were getting an email that has had us excited for the past six months. And today- today!- tickets go on sale for this:

There may or may not have been some serious jumping up and down action over here when we found out about this bit of awesome: one of our favorite font sites, You Work For Them, is having a MAJOR typeface sale. Until February 1, all of the YWFR typefaces are- wait for it- fifty. Percent. Off. That’s 50%, people. As in, get these fantastic fonts for HALF OFF.

We particularly love all the hand drawn inspired typefaces: Hannah, Mr Hyde, Welna and Victoria are just a few of our favorites.

This teal and deep purple tablescape had us at first look- we LOVE the contrast of the flowers with the beautiful blue tableware. The different tones of blue in the plates and the cups (which are fabulous by the way! The subtle texture on the tumblers, swoon!) are gorgeous and we love the pop of cream from the chargers.

thursday tip: your vendor team

Getting back to blogging this week! For today’s Thursday Tip, I’m (Jenna) stepping out of our stationery box and giving you one straight from my personal wedding planning experience.

I’d have to get married, oh, about fifty times and have fifty different weddings to include all the amazing details and DIY projects that I pin like crazy on Pinterest. You know I’d keep the groom :) But I’d also keep my vendor team- they rocked it and I’m STILL so thrilled with everything from our wedding day. Being in the wedding industry and looking at gorgeous weddings every day, that’s HUGE.

My theory on why we lucked out with awesome vendors? We found a photographer we fell in love with- Amy Raab- and listened when she gave recommendations for our other vendors. And boy, did she know what she was talking about. Thanks to Amy, we ended up choosing two other fantastic creatives: Tonya from Blue Sky Films and our florist, Jo.

If you love one of your vendors- their style, their attitude, their personality- ask them about vendors they love! They’ll know a lot of vendors, but even better: they’ll know the vendors that share their style, that they get along with and that do good work. You have a great chance of finding another keeper. Happy planning!
hello 2012!

As we wind down the holidays and get ready to say hello to 2012, we thought we’d take a little walk down memory lane with some of the accomplishments we’re most proud of this year.

The Blog

Wow did we kick up the blogging this year! 2011 was the year of the regular blog posts- we finally hit our stride thanks to a couple of weekly series: Thursday Tips and Font Friday. We can’t say enough about the amazing, type loving kindred spirits we’ve found in the Font Friday ladies, and Lauren from Every Last Detail’s great idea for Thursday Tips was an awesome motivator for us to start sharing stationery advice (check out some of our other archives too: colorboards and inspiration, in progress posts, and real weddings). We’re so grateful for everyone who takes the time to read, and for every single comment.

The Clients

Speaking of real weddings- just a quick glance at this section will tell you what lucky, lucky girls we are: our clients are amazing. A big thank you to all of our lovely clients for giving us so much inspiration this year- from the DC skyline to woodgrain paper to oversized rhinestones to lace and wax seals. We’ve loved every minute.

The Community

We’re constantly wowed by the community we’ve been blessed with this year- it’s one of our favorite parts about working in this industry. From TWIPS to local wedding vendors, it’s been amazing getting to know so many fantastic wedding pros.

The Shop

This was definitely a labor of love- up and running right in time for the holidays, we’re still on kind of a “We did it!” high from this one. We have some big plans for this little shop in 2012!

Welcome to our little type lovefest! This typeface is named McCartney. One of the type samples says “Show us your glyphs” and this made us laugh out loud. Enough said, really.

Okay, we’ll say more. Or let the designer say it: “McCartney Typeface in both Paul & Linda weights. Mechanical but warm… with multiple letter choices and loads of swash characters for versatile display type. “

We stumbled upon Dan Cassaro’s Young Jerks website and didn’t leave for quite awhile: there’s a whole lot of gorgeous typography to admire, including this awesome rockstar (literally) font.

Don’t forget to visit Every Last Detail for more Thursday Tips!

Welcome back to our wording series! We tackled the invitation wording last post, and today we’ll cover the rest of the pieces in your invitation set: the inserts.

Inserts are all of those other cards in your set that aren’t the actual invitation- you may have all of these or none of these (a reply card is almost always included).

Reply card

Here’s the information you’re after: the guest(s) names, if they’re coming or not coming, and, if you have a meal choice, what they’d like to eat. Here’s how you’re going to get it:

Now jazz it up and make it yours! Stick with the formal “accepts with pleasure” and “declines with regret” and add a “Leave a note for the happy couple” section- you’ll cherish those sweet notes. Or ditch the accepts/declines and go for wording that fits your wedding: “Can’t wait to join C+L on this great adventure!” for accepts and “We’ll be there in spirit!” for declines. Just like with the invitation wording, take this as another unexpected opportunity to show your wedding style.

Accomodations card

Goal here: to inform guests about lodging options and if you have a room block reserved. We like to include the phone number and addresses of the hotel choices, and be sure to let guests know what event code or name to mention if you do have a room block:

Directions card

This can double up with the accommodations card if room allows, or it can be paired with a cute map. You can do directions from major points: “from the north,” “from the east,” or do directions from the major destinations: from the hotel to the ceremony to the reception.

Reception card

A separate card inviting guests to the reception is usually included when the ceremony and reception are held at two different locations. The basic info: what, where, and the dress (if you’re specifying a dress code, it should skip the main invitation card and go here).

Including your wedding website is a must- that’s where all that information that just won’t fit anywhere else is going to go! We do smaller cards just for these, or if there’s room, we include them on the directions or accommodations card. If your wedding website is password protected, be sure to include that as well.

Our biggest tip? Just like your details- make it yours. Let your wording shine for you- anywhere you can (or want to!), give your guests clues about the two of you and your wedding. Super laidback? Classic and formal? Funny? Show it.
